Note: NO outside alcoholic beverages are permitted on the premises at any times.

401 Second Street has roots in Williamsburg dating back to 1960. Originally built by The Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of Virginia to service its utility vehicles, and later the headquarters of a used car lot and automotive shop, it is now the home of The Virginia Beer Company. Our 2,000 sq. ft. family friendly taproom is able to host up to 135 visitors at a time. It retains the original industrial feel of the building's history while welcoming guests with modern amenities. Our bars and tables come from reclaimed wood sourced from a 1907 built barn out of Windsor, VA, and our walls and cooler are lined with the same wood and corrugated metal from the roof of the same barn. The taproom features two viewing windows looking into the brewing area, as well as a viewing bar top running along both windows. Amenities include womens & mens restrooms, a family restroom with changing table (upon request), outlets, board & card games, books, and two filtered water fountains. Our roll-up garage door allows access to the beer garden on nice days, and access is always available via the side door on the far side of the taproom.

Ordering a beer: Please feel free to order a beer from anywhere around the bar! When the taproom is busy, a line may form in front of our ADA compliant bar top near our packaged goods cooler. Don't fret - you do not need to wait in line! Spread out around the bar and order the next round from the nearest beertender.

Chalkboards list the current day's beer menu as well as our Flight Plan. We recommend taking a photo of the board to keep record of this information handy (and to help us save the environment one menu at a time). You can find the same information via the ON TAP page on this website. There, each beer is linked to an online description of the beer featuring tasting notes and ingredients.

We will gladly fill clean, unblemished containers of (most of) our beers for takeaway purchase! Pricing is located under each beer listed on our menu board, with the last two prices to the right displaying 32 oz. & 64 oz. fills. We also sell a number of branded 32 oz. & 64 oz. vessels along with a variety of 12 oz. & 16 oz. cans.

Food & Drink: We currently feature a rotation of food trucks on a weekly basis. The calendar of food trucks is fluid so we strive to promote food trucks a week in advance on our website as well as daily on our social media feeds (links located at bottom of website).

We also allow guests to bring in manageable sized meals. Please be conscious of your fellow patrons and clean up after your meal! We allow delivery to the brewery and feature an exclusive delivery menu with nearby Antonio's Ristorante Italiano, which waives delivery fees for orders to the brewery. We offer VA peanuts, VA chips, and sodas for sale as well. NO outside alcoholic beverages are permitted on the premises at any times.

Pets: Per Virginia ABC law, pets are not allowed inside our taproom. While we love pups our facility is family friendly and we need to have a space for those who aren't comfortable around pets. That said - well behaved dogs that are kept on a leash are allowed outside in our beer garden! A water bowl is available upon request; we want to ensure everyone has the ability to enjoy a drink while visiting 401!

Please Note: Our facility is a non-smoking/vaping facility. Thank you in advance!

Parking: Additional parking options can be found at this link.

Interested in booking a special event with The Virginia Beer Company? We are closed on Tuesdays and offer the brewery for private events on this day. We'll happily discuss events on other days as well, but don't generally reserve space or large private functions during normal business hours. We do offer private tours and group reservations for special occasions. Just use our Book An Event form to fill us in on your event request and to receive information about availability/pricing. Please allow up to 48 hours for us to get back to you.
